Most people who have dabbled in astrology know their Sun sign, and if they have gone a little further, their Rashi — the Vedic moon sign. Fewer know their Nakshatra, which is a shame, because it is often the more precise instrument.

There are 27 Nakshatras, each spanning roughly 13°20′ of the zodiac — much narrower slices than the 30° Rashi divisions. Where your Rashi describes a broad theme, your Nakshatra speaks more to texture: instincts, unconscious patterns, the way emotion tends to move through you before you have had time to think about it.

Each Nakshatra is ruled by a planet and carries its own symbolism, from Ashwini's restless, healing energy to Revati's quiet, boundary-dissolving compassion. None of this is meant as fate. It is a vocabulary — a more specific language for patterns you may already have noticed in yourself.

Your Nakshatra also informs the Dasha sequence, the planetary periods Vedic astrology uses for timing. That is part of why a proper reading asks for your birth time, not just the date: a few hours' difference can move your Moon into a different Nakshatra entirely.

Start with the basics: find your sun sign. Full Nakshatra calculation is in development.
